Decades ago, working cowboys didn't have a wall of high-end tack; they had a single silver dollar in their pocket and a piece of discarded lariat rope in the bunkhouse.
When a young horse was ready to transition out of the snaffle but wasn't mature enough for a heavy steel bit, the cowboy would knot that stiff lariat rope around the nose. It was simple, raw, and cost next to nothing—literally a "single dollar" solution born out of necessity.
